Grounds
The
grounds at the Apple Tree Inn reflect the ambience of the pine forest where
it is situated.. Care was taken in building the Inn so that many of the
native Ponderosa Pines, Firs, Sugar Pines, Maples and Oaks were preserved .
The beds and border gardens are created in a manner that enhances this
native landscape. Gardens at the Inn are continuing to develop but include
the following;
Traditional Border Garden , now in its 8th year and with new additions each
season, a border that includes perennials hardy enough to make it through
our snowy winters. It contains, Delphinium, Rudbeckia, Peony, Echinops,
Asclepias, Shasta Daisy, Asters, Echinacea, Erigeron, Spirea, Hesperis,
Hollyhock, Phlox, Helianthemum, Baptistia, Lychnis and more.
Complimentary Color Garden, From an artist’s perspective a garden created to
show off the vibrations that can be created by using shades of purple and
yellow flowers. In a bed, just to the north a touch of red is added to tease
the eye.
Dwarf Conifer Collection, a developing hillside of various dwarf conifers ,
interspersed with woody perennials
Giant Garden, FEE, FI, FO, FUM, bring your camera to capture a view of our
sleeping giant as he awaits the arrival of Jack. The garden is one that
delights young and old, with its sculptural elements, a topiary fountain and
an environment of giant leaved plants, such as Rheum, Gunnera and Hardy
Banana ( Musa)
Moon Garden , Our moon garden was completed in 2004 . It is a place to stop
and enjoy the change of light throughout the day and then into the night.
Watch the vibrations of color change at twilight with a touch of "Aspen
Glow". Then, experience the quiet of the evening as the moon rises and the
silver, white and greens of the garden surround you with reflected light.
Moss baskets, Details count in our garden- as you can see in the billowing
moss baskets of annuals and perennials that festoon numerous lamp posts
spread throughout the property.
Hanging Garden Wall Our extensive retaining wall near the pool has proven a
challenge, but with hanging baskets of color it is taking shape. Look for
some new additions this year in the form of hand cast stone canvases,
blooming with botanical paintings that pay tribute to some native California
wildflowers.
Fern Garden. A birdbath set amongst a sampling of ferns, mosses, and spotted
Lungwort (Pulmonaria) is the perfect place to observe local birds as they
come to visit this cool spot.
