Harmony
Originally established by Swiss dairymen
as a creamery in 1869,
Harmony is now a charming village with
a population of 18, just six miles south of Cambria.
One of the country’s leading artists in mouth-blown lustre art glass,
Carl Radke, works from his glass-blowing studio, Phoenix Studios, in
this quaint village. A trip to Cambria and California’s Central Coast
would not be complete without a visit to see
Carl Radke at work in his Phoenix Studios.
Phoenix Studios is open daily, except Tuesday, from 10am to 5pm. The
artist is usually blowing glass Thursday through Sunday between 12 noon
and 3pm. It is advisable to call ahead to verify schedules at
805-927-4248.
Another must during your visit to Harmony is The Harmony Pottery.
Established in 1973, the pottery was the first in a series of studios,
shops, and restaurants created in the restored Harmony Valley Creamery
Association buildings.
The gallery represents the work of over 150 artists, both local and
national, specializing in the best and most unique ceramic art,
porcelain jewelry, and hand-dipped candles.
The Harmony Pottery is open daily from
10am to 5pm. 805-927-4293.
