Laguna Seca
The home of motor
sport in California, historic Laguna Seca Raceway (now known as the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca) hosts sports car championships
and classic motorcycle races, along with numerous other
motor-sport-related events and functions.
Laguna Seca was
originally part of the Fort Ord military base, which once housed 25,000
soldiers and civilians. In 1974, it was turned over to Monterey County,
which then transferred responsibilities to the Parks Department. The
Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP)
currently operates the track.
SCRAMP is a
non-profit organization that began by presenting one motor sport event
per year. SCRAMP now handles all of the racing events and track rentals
at Laguna Seca Raceway. The organization also donates thousands of
dollars each year to charity and the local community.
