Environmentally Friendly Hotels in California and OregonAt Moonstone Hotel Properties, our passion is gardening and taking care of the planet. Each of our hotels, resorts and inns feature a garden theme, and many offer extensive gardens and grounds that our guests can enjoy. Our love for the outdoors and the natural beauty of our locations inspire us to be stewards for the environment in which we live. Here are a few things we do at our hotels to ensure an eco-friendly experience for our guests and help preserve our planet and communities.
Many of our hotels feature low-flow toilets, which use as low as 0.8 gallons of water per flush, and aerated shower heads, which use only 2 gallons of water per minute. We employ water conservation practices in our irrigation systems, and operate energy- and water-efficient laundry facilities in many of our hotels. Our guest rooms also include compact fluorescent light bulbs.
In addition, our Wetland habitat at The Oregon Garden is an innovative program in partnership with the City of Silverton, where the area's treated waste water is used to create a thriving habitat for a variety of wildlife and plants. The water travels at 300 gallons per minute in peak season through a series of terraced ponds, into a holding tank where it then flows into an irrigation system - a unique and attractive method of using treated water to irrigate the Garden. The Garden also promotes sustainability through green roofs, composting, edible landscaping and barley straw algae control.
